How to Stop your Family from watching Porn

By

Do you know if your family is being exposed to pornography on the web?

The world wide web can be very dangerous to upcoming children. Sexually explicit images and websites can appear without notice. Porn images can come in the form of spam, email, pop-up ads. The most dangerous part in finding pornography on the internet is looking up certain topics. For example, when searching google a child can type in a single word and it can lead to a porn site. Statistics show that children and teens are being exposed to pornography in various forms. If they are looking for it or just come across pornographic porn sites. In some situations children are exposed to friends just by the word of mouth.

Porn Facts

In the year 2005 1,500 children and teenagers were surveyed for pornography. They found that around 42% of children where exposed to pornography during that year. Another survey was done in the year 2010 and surveys showed that around 63% have been exposed to pornography through online activity.

Of those who reported seeing online pornography:

  • 66% said all exposure was "unwanted" (they hadn't sought it out)
  • 34% said the exposure was either "wanted" (they'd visited X-rated sites or downloaded provocative images on purpose) or both wanted and unwanted (they had intentionally looked for online pornography and had seen it without trying)

The study showed that 44% of the kids and teens that searched for online pornography were also more likely to look for sexual content when in the company of "friends or other kids."

Few girls, regardless of their age, said that they tried to find online pornography. Among youths who searched for suggestive websites in the past year, rates were higher for:

  • teens
  • boys
  • kids who used file-sharing programs to download images
  • youths who reported being harassed or sexually solicited online
  • those who scored in the borderline or clinically significant range for depression

Filtering, blocking, or monitoring software did help reduce the rate of unwanted exposure.

such as depression, interpersonal victimization, and delinquent tendencies, have more exposure."

Exposure to Pornography Threatens to Make Children

Statistics have shown that the internet has been used by pedohiles. A pedophile is an adult whom is sexually attracted to children. Pedophiles remain in chat rooms and porn sites when children are exposed to porn and become bored. A pedophile can start conversations with children and find their victims in chat rooms.

Statistics has also shown that the more pornography children are exposed to increases the risk of he or she acting out they will see

Which Leads to

  • Pre-marital sex
  • Children having children
  • Teaches children to become rapists
  • Sex Addiction
  • STD’s
  • Molestation
  • Rape
  • Sexual Assults

Pornography's Relationship to Child Molestation

In a study of convicted child molesters,

Statistics show that convicted child molesters 77 percent of those who molested boys and

87 percent of those who molested girls admitted to the habitual use of pornography in the commission of their crimes.

Besides stimulating the perpetrator, pornography facilitates child molestation in several ways.

For example, pedophiles use pornographic photos to demonstrate to their victims what they want them to do.

Exposure to Pornography Shapes Values and Attitudes

Most of us caring, responsible parents want to instill in our children our own personal values about relationships, sex, intimacy, love, and marriage. Unfortunately, the powerful irresponsible messages of pornography may be educating our children on these very important life issues. Just as thirty-second commercials can influence whether or not we choose one popular soft drink over another, exposure to pornography shapes.

  • our attitudes
  • values
  • our behavior

FORMS OF PORN

  • Photographs
  • videos
  • magazines
  • virtual games
  • Internet pornography

The danger to children stems at least partly from the disturbing changes in attitude that are facilitated by pornography. Replicated studieshave demonstrated that exposure to significant amounts of increasingly graphic forms of pornography has a dramatic effect on how adult consumers view women, sexual abuse, sexual relationships, and sex in general. These studies are virtually unanimous in their conclusions: When male subjects were exposed to as little as six weeks' worth of standard hard-core pornography, they:

  • Developed an increased sexual callousness toward women
  • Began to trivialize rape as a criminal offense or no longer considered it a crime at all
  • Developed distorted perceptions about sexuality
  • Developed an appetite for more deviant, bizarre, or violent types of pornography (normal sex no longer seemed to do the job)
  • Devalued the importance of monogamy and lacked confidence in marriage as either a viable or lasting institution
  • Viewed nonmonogamous relationships as normal and natural behavior

What Should you Do?

You can't stand over your child's shoulder, ready to jump in front of the screen at the first sight of exposed skin. But you can help keep X-rated online material out of your home by using:

  • parent-control options, offered by many Internet service providers (ISPs)
  • software that can ban access to certain sites based on a "bad site" list
  • filtering programs to keep certain sites from coming in
  • programs to monitor and track your child's Internet activity

It's also a good idea to:

  • Put the computer in a common area.
  • Share an email account with younger children to monitor incoming messages.
  • Bookmark favorite sites so that it's less likely your child will stumble upon sexually provocative content because of a simple typo.
